"Getting the shot" with in the water surf photography is a random affair. There are so many variables including great waves, quality surfers, good lighting, water color, the positioning of the swimming photographer vis-a-vis the surfer hurtling towards him and a lot of luck. These all came together at a rare break called "Insanities" on the north shore of Oahu. As its name suggests the break is pretty hazardous and unpredictable, but this day I swam out with two talented surfers on a windless day with turquoise green water and we worked it for all it was worth.
